Highland Disabled Ramblers have the use of 6 large mobility scooters, plus a new machine, provided by Scottish Natural Heritage and City Mobility of Inverness. Members are urged to take along layers of clothing, waterproof jackets and trousers as well as hats and gloves; sitting still on a scooter can make you feel cold, even when the sun is shining! Sorry, children and pets cannot be carried on scooters. Each ramble day we hire one or two large vans and our volunteer drivers collect the scooters from our store and deliver them to the start of the ramble. After the ramble they load up again, return the machines to base and take back the hire vans. The scooters are serviced yearly and checked regularly, but our members use them at their own risk.
We also have use of a Mini Crosser scooter as shown below. This was presented to HDR by Scottish Natural Heritage and City Mobility, Inverness, and it will be used for auditing new routes.
